Hello! This is me and kiddo!
Thanks for stopping by The Vegetarian Mom! Glad to have you here! Here is a little bit about me and my family. I wasn’t always a vegetarian. I was raised on a diet full of meats and seafoods. I grew up in the restaurant industry and when I left home I continued to work in a restaurant. Finding new and exciting ways to cook food has always been fun for me. My recipe book is packed full of recipes for just about anything and everything!
Then my husband and I decided to start a family. I got pregnant in 2009 and little did I know it was going to change the way I view food forever! For my entire pregnancy I did not want meat. Just the sight or thought of it would send me running to the bathroom. I learned not to fight it and just found alternatives. I figured once I had my baby that I would then be able to resume a regular diet. Not so! Meat still made me sick, but my dear husband loves a good steak so I kept cooking our normal meals. I just wouldn’t eat very much of the meat at all.
When kiddo became old enough to start eating solids we discovered early on that he is a natural born vegetarian. Well, I guess that makes sense right? LOL! I watched as this beautiful child blossomed on a vegetarian diet. Kiddo’s doctor never seemed concerned at all. At all his wellness check ups he was growing just fine. In fact he was thriving!
So this sparked my curiosity. Could I do it to? I really didn’t enjoy meat anyways except of course a good fast food hamburger (which makes me gag now to think about! LOL!). I played around with the idea for a year or so. I did lots of research and I am even taking a nutrition course to learn even more. After several bouts of gastritis I decided it was time to ditch meat for good! A not so pleasant youtube video about how animals are treated in the meat market also made it SUPER EASY to quit eating meat over night! Don’t worry! I will spare you the gory details! That is not what this blog is about. 😉
So here I am! I started this blog to document my diet change and to keep myself accountable for this new lifestyle. I also felt that it was extremely important to write this blog to encourage other parents to do the same! My son’s doctor actually told me that more and more kids are refusing to eat meat! Interesting right?! So I know I’m not alone! I hope to help motivate each of you that are on this same path.
